Development Standing Committee
The Development Standing Committee is an important Standing Committee of the Grama Panchayat responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring development activities and programmes within the Panchayat.
Major Responsibilities
- Prepare the Panchayat's development plans and take the lead in their implementation.
- Monitor programmes in productive sectors such as agriculture, animal husbandry, dairy development, and fisheries.
- Coordinate poverty eradication programmes and livelihood development initiatives.
- Review the progress of development activities, including the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
- Participate in the formulation of Annual Plans and Five-Year Plans.
- Examine procedures relating to the selection of beneficiaries for various development programmes.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of development projects and provide necessary recommendations.
Committee Structure
- A member elected from among the Grama Panchayat members serves as the Chairperson of the Development Standing Committee.
- Other members are included in the Committee as prescribed by law.
