Poonjar Thekkekara Grama Panchayat

Introduction

The Annual Plan of Poonjar Thekkekara Grama Panchayat for 2022–23 was formulated based on the proposals and suggestions received from the Grama Sabhas and the Development Seminar. Various projects were implemented under the production, service and infrastructure sectors. Special emphasis was given to agricultural development, healthcare, social welfare, housing, drinking water, sanitation and road development.

Plan Structure

The Annual Plan 2022–23 mainly consisted of projects under three major sectors:

1. Production Sector

Various projects were implemented focusing on agriculture, animal husbandry, dairy development and women’s entrepreneurship.

Major Projects:

• Milk subsidy for dairy farmers
• Distribution of milch cows
• Milk production incentive schemes
• Distribution of banana suckers
• Promotion of group farming
• Development of beekeeping
• Financial assistance to women entrepreneurs
• Fish farming and poultry development projects

Approximately ₹95.88 lakh was allocated for projects under the Production Sector.

2. Service Sector

Several projects were implemented in the areas of social security, healthcare, education, housing, drinking water and sanitation.

Health Sector

• Purchase of medicines for the Family Health Centre
• Purchase of medicines for Ayurveda and Homoeopathic Hospitals
• Palliative care programme
• Payment of remuneration to health workers
• Ambulance operating expenses
• Improvement and modernisation of health institutions

Education and Child Welfare

• Nutrition programmes through Anganwadis
• Renovation of Anganwadis
• Breakfast programme for school students
• Development of basic infrastructure in Anganwadis

Social Welfare

• Distribution of cots to senior citizens
• Scholarships for persons with disabilities
• Distribution of assistive devices
• Provision of food and medicines to extremely poor families
• Women empowerment programmes

Housing Sector

• LIFE Housing Scheme
• Housing renovation
• Asraya programmes
• Purchase of land for landless and homeless beneficiaries

Waste Management and Sanitation

• Construction of Material Collection Facilities (MCFs)
• Purchase of an electric auto for the Haritha Karma Sena
• Installation of a baling machine
• Strengthening of sanitation and waste management activities

Approximately ₹3.50 crore was allocated for projects under the Service Sector.

3. Infrastructure Sector

Construction, renovation and maintenance of roads, culverts, retaining walls, footpaths and bridges were undertaken in various wards of the Grama Panchayat.

Major Achievements

The implementation of the Annual Plan 2022–23 contributed to the overall development and improvement of public services in Poonjar Thekkekara Grama Panchayat.

Major achievements include:

• Supported increased productivity in the dairy and agricultural sectors.
• Strengthened healthcare services and facilities.
• Improved housing security through the LIFE Housing Scheme.
• Upgraded Anganwadis and educational institutions.
• Strengthened and improved waste management systems.
• Enhanced the quality of rural roads and public infrastructure.
• Implemented targeted welfare programmes for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, women and extremely poor families.
• Promoted livelihood opportunities through agricultural, dairy and women-oriented development programmes.
• Improved basic infrastructure and public amenities across different wards of the Panchayat.

Conclusion

The Annual Plan 2022–23 focused on inclusive and people-oriented development by giving priority to essential services, livelihood generation, social security and infrastructure development. The participation of Grama Sabhas and local communities contributed to identifying local development needs and implementing projects according to the priorities of the Panchayat.
