Finance Standing Committee

The Finance Standing Committee is one of the important Standing Committees constituted in Grama Panchayats under the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act. The Committee plays a crucial role in matters relating to the Panchayat's finances, budget, revenue and expenditure, and taxation.

Major Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of the Panchayat's annual budget.
  • Examine and evaluate the Panchayat's income and expenditure.
  • Make recommendations regarding taxes, fees, and other sources of revenue.
  • Identify and facilitate financial resources required for development projects and other activities.
  • Examine audit reports and financial inspection reports.
  • Ensure financial discipline and transparency in the functioning of the Panchayat.
  • Supervise the preparation of annual financial statements.

Committee Structure

  • The Panchayat President serves as the Chairperson of the Finance Standing Committee.
  • Other members are elected from among the Panchayat governing body as prescribed by law.
