Welfare Standing Committee
The Welfare Standing Committee is one of the important Standing Committees of the Grama Panchayat, responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring various welfare activities and programmes for the local community.
Major Responsibilities
- Implement welfare programmes for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and other disadvantaged sections of society.
- Lead and coordinate welfare activities for women, children, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities.
- Oversee the implementation and administration of social security pension schemes.
- Promote women empowerment programmes, self-employment initiatives, and Kudumbashree activities.
- Review and monitor child welfare, child development, and nutrition programmes.
- Ensure the implementation of welfare schemes for homeless persons, economically disadvantaged people, and other eligible beneficiaries.
- Make recommendations and initiate measures to promote social justice and improve the quality of life of vulnerable sections of society.
Committee Structure
- The Committee consists of members elected from among the Grama Panchayat governing body.
- One of the members is elected as the Chairperson of the Standing Committee.
Importance
The Welfare Standing Committee serves as a central platform for the Panchayat's social welfare activities. By promoting the welfare and social security of different sections of society, the Committee makes an important contribution towards inclusive and comprehensive rural development.
